About Me?

Are you sure you meant to click this? Really sure? It’s nothing interesting really, just a bit of a background on myself, my origin story as some might say…

You’re still here…crikey, ok…I guess I should put something meaningful and almost…poetic?..

Well, I’m Delo, or atleast that’s what I call myself in 99% of any online interaction. I’m a mid 30 something guy from the UK. I’m a family man, and I guess a career man? I mean I have a job…

I’ve worked in tech my entire working life after dropping out of University to actually get a job as a first line tech on a helpdesk (crazy right?!) that was when I was a young whippersnapper at around 21. I’ve been into anything technical, or inherently “nerdy” my entire life before that too. Growing up with a Commodore 64 as a home computer, an Atari 2600 (faithfully modded by my father), there was an even an Apple II somewhere in the mix back in the early days of my growing up.

Since that first line job, I rose through the ranks so to speak, moved up to a field engineer, which lasted about two weeks, before they decided “Sod it, you can go on third line” and I happily agreed. Third line tech work was some of the best times of my life, learning so much, getting shouted at, learning some more…

I left that job wanting to specialise a little more, I’ve always been hands on, liked my hardware, I see the point of the Cloud and never shun it, but there’s nothing better than a physical piece of hardware, so I ultimately become a data centre engineer, or infrastructure engineer I guess, playing with servers, virtualisation…and anything else no one wants to do.

Work life has its ups and downs, but I make sure I find time for myself too…it might get serious now…you’ve been warned…

For the majority of my adult life, I’ve suffered with some degree of “poor mental health”, that might manifest as anxiety for no reason or full blown depression and suicidal thoughts. I don’t see them as taboo, I openly admit I have struggled and still do at times. I want to help anyone that goes through the same issues as me, so much so that I volunteer at a popular mens mental health group in the UK.

Serious stuff done…because of my geeky background, I’m an avid gamer, not one of this FPS/Battle Royale players, something with a story, some guts behind it and interesting games all the same. You’ll see that in the blog.

Finally, for now, as I like to ramble. Music…music is life, music is all. I honestly listen to most things, I definitely sway towards the “core” metal music genres, metalcore, hardcore, even some deathcore at times. You simply can’t beat the lyrics these geniuses come up with. At the same time, I like some dance/techno songs too, most things take my fancy…just not over processed pop I guess.
